Majalengka - It is a belief that the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia is very important to maintain and maintain because it directly impacts all areas of Indonesian people's lives, such as ideology, politics, social, culture, defense and security. Therefore, maintaining and maintaining it is the responsibility of all of us as Indonesians by respecting and appreciating each other's differences and avoiding discriminatory attitudes and placing unity and unity so as to avoid the disintegration of the nation caused by prioritizing personal and class interests.
"The impression of the press is a very strong support for the maintenance of the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia," said Aceng Syamsul Hadie, S.Sos., MM as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the DPP ASWIN (International Association of Journalists) when met by the media team at his residence (03/03/2025).
"To create the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia is very closely related to freedom of the press, where the role and function of the press is to disseminate information, educate the public, and supervise the power in carrying out tasks for the benefit of society and create a fair, prosperous, transparent and responsible state, Therefore freedom of the press in society is indispensable and is a fundamental principle and one of the pillars in upholding the basic values of democracy, promoting the realization of the supremacy of law and human rights and respecting diversity", explained Aceng Syamsul Hadie who is also a lecturer at one of the universities and a former member of DPRD 3 (three periods) in Majalengka regency.
Freedom of the press in Indonesia is a form of implementation of the 1945 Constitution Article 28 which has regulated freedom of association and gathering, issuing thoughts with oral and written words and so on established by law, Freedom of the press is a human right characteristic of democracy. This right is governed by the international legal apparatus and the national legal apparatus. However, freedom of speech and expression cannot be automatically enforced, so full support and serious commitment are needed between government officials, law enforcement officials and community elements.
"If I may nuke the third American President Thomas Jeferson's words, 'No democracy without free press' means that democracy will not be realized without freedom of the press, Jefferson even explained that freedom of the press is an important and unrestricted right and is part of individual freedom that must be maintained and unrestricted without any loss, when the press is silenced, then every effort for public benefit will be eliminated, without freedom of the press, There would be no guarantee of human rights protection and no democratic state would be achieved. It is clear that freedom of the press has an important role in building the integrity of the democratic Republic of the Republic of Indonesia, because it can increase transparency, accountability, public participation, awareness, and understanding in the nation and state," he said.
"However, keep in mind that the abuse of freedom of the press will be fatal and this is a challenge, such as the dissemination of inaccurate, irresponsible information and hoaxes that can trigger social and political tensions, The use of freedom of the press for personal and group purposes as well as limited access to information resulting in misunderstanding", concluded Aceng Syamsul Hadie, who is currently also the General Chair of the Daarurrahman Cigayam Foundation, an educational institution foundation including Madrasah Aliyah, Madrasah Tsanawiyah, Madrasah Diniyah and TPA.
